Discovered already in April 2012 this tree looks like it might stay longer in the lower Erymanthos Canyon. It is in the longest eddyless section of the canyon. Approach very carefully, there is a last eddy for one boat when you see it. In April experienced paddlers could pass it on the right. But the branch is likely to collect more log. Portage possible with a bit climbing on river right. Take care!

Apparently the tree has left this crucial passage of the canyon. Franz Bettinger and friends tried to remove the obstacle in April/May 2012. The tree was swept a bit further. Take care especially in that long core section without too many eddies.

April 7th the whole canyon of lower Erymanthos (»Matz Canyon«) was free from wooden dangers. Take care few hundred metres after the put-in at Vidiaki: When the river splits better take the left arm. In the exit of the right dangerous trees hide between conglomerate boulders. This spot was unrunnable in April 2012. The left arm is without any problems.

The crucial part of the Matz Canyon in April 2013. In medium water the current is really fast between the walls. Check for trees before each run. | Foto: Scheuer
