Greece and Bulgaria – Best of insider tips (WW III-IV)

Greece is a real treasure chest. A surprise bag of landscapes and microclimates, a land full of water in every season - outside and inside. The Pindos, the mountainous backbone of the country, extends far to the south and is divided into mighty longitudinal valleys from the Ionian coast to the Thessalian Plain. In the northeast, the Rhodopes shield the coast from the much more continental Bulgaria.

We will spend most nights in family-run hotels, eat in rustic taverns and not shed a tear after winter as we look at the snow-capped mountains. We plan the river agenda day by day, always with an eye on the water gauge and weather glass.

Requirements:

• Independent navigation of streams in white water III+
• Driving knowledge of boat type: whitewater kayak, whitewater canoe or packraft
• Knowledge of safe behavior when swimming in whitewater
• Knowledge of the use of throw bags and safety equipment
• Generally good physical condition

Content:

• 10 days of travel, including 9 days of paddling to the most beautiful wild rivers in Greece (and if possible also in Bulgaria) in white water III-IV.
• Guiding with one or (depending on the size of the group) several canoe instructors. Technical training if desired.
• We help with flight bookings, take care of airport transfers from Thessaloniki Airport and arrange logistics.

Accommodation:

Toros Outdoors only establishes contact with local drivers and guesthouses and the camp participants settle these services directly with the local entrepreneurs.

Arrival:

We recommend the Igoumenitsa ferry port as the arrival port for all self-drivers arriving by sea. Ferries arrive there from Venice (several times a week), Ancona (daily) and Brindisi (daily). Who already has us in Southern Italy Camp accompanied, can easily combine the two trips.

We pick up air travelers at Thessaloniki Airport on the evening of Maundy Thursday (March 28.3th). If you land in the afternoon, you can explore the city by bus or taxi and we will pick you up on the edge of the old town.

The tour starts on the morning of Good Friday near Grevena at Mileapotamos/Perivoliotiko. The last day of paddling will be on Sunday. You book the return flight on April 8.4th. Important:

Weather and water conditions may require short-term changes to route and river selection. Rainy days are not uncommon in March and April. In addition, the water levels depend heavily on the snow conditions. This means that individual stages may not be possible due to too little or too much water. In any case, top-class alternatives are provided.
