The NRS Nuq Screw Lock is a classic HMS screw carabiner. The Nuq carabiners are NRS' largest carabiners and are therefore perfect for hanging in the handles of kayaks. The snapper of the carabiner engages in a key lock and is screwed shut with the threaded locking sleeve.
In contrast to the wire clip version, this carabiner does not require a nose for a secure closure. This means that no ropes or loops can get caught in the nose notch when hanging and unhooking. The Nuq screw carabiner from NRS is made of anodized aluminum, as is usual in climbing.
The pear shape of the HMS carabiner is designed for the construction of half-mast safety devices (HMS). However, the screw lock is vulnerable due to the winding of the HMS. Both DAV and SAS therefore recommend positioning the brake hand opposite the snapper - or one at the same time HMS carabiner with 3-way lock to use.
