The NRS Nuq Twist Lock is a universally applicable HMS carabiner in canoe security. The Nuq carabiners are NRS' largest carabiners and are therefore perfect for quickly attaching them to the handles of kayaks. The self-locking twist-lock system significantly reduces the risk of accidental opening and getting caught in the carabiner. At the same time, the carabiner can still be opened quickly with one hand. This makes this carabiner the perfect companion in the cowstail and in the directly accessible safety set with a sling.
In contrast to the wire clip version, this carabiner does not require a nose for a secure closure. This means that no ropes or loops can get caught in the nose notch when hanging and unhooking. The Nuq Twist Lock carabiner from NRS is made of anodized aluminum, as is usual in climbing.
The pear shape of the HMS carabiner is designed for the construction of half-mast hitch fuses (HMS). However, the twist-lock security is vulnerable due to the winding of the HMS. Both DAV and SAS therefore recommend positioning the braking hand opposite the snapper - or one HMS carabiner with 3-way lock to use.
