Southern Italy – Cilento instead of Chile (WW III-IV)

960,00

Mountains and sea very close, with blue rivers in between in crazy limestone canyons. The southern Italy road trip takes you to the rather unknown streams of the Campania, Basilicata and Calabria regions! If you wish, you can also easily take the train!

Delivery time: 1-3 days

Far in the south of Italy, mysterious white water is hidden in karst valleys. Water can be found here between November and April, spring arrives at the beginning of March and melts the snow at high altitudes. The regions of Campania, Basilicata and Calabria are a true natural paradise. Impressive mountains meet the deep blue sea, with paddlers deep in the rocky gap.

After Scheuer sniffed the first hint of promise on the Lao in 2005, almost two decades passed until the thorough exploration in January 2023. And we have to say: not by bad paddlers, this southern Italy! The Calore, the king of the Cilento, delights in the gloomy forest with delicate gorges. The Bussento almost seems too small to paddle, until after a short while springs bubble up from every corner. Greetings from Greece! The Noce Bianco, on the other hand, surprises with its powerful water even at medium water. And then there is the said Lao. One of the most impressive gorges in Europe.

The southern Italy road trip is a seamless continuation of the camp “Trebbia and Co”. Feel free to come on board for the full two weeks. What else is special: The Italy camps are ideal for traveling by train. We will pick you up at the train station in Salerno and have rental boats ready.

Requirements:

  • Independent navigation of rivers in white water III+
  • Driving knowledge of boat type: whitewater kayak, whitewater canoe or packraft
  • Knowledge of safe behavior when swimming in whitewater
  • Knowledge of the use of throw bags and safety equipment
  • Generally good physical condition

  • If desired, kayaks and paddles can be rented for an additional charge. You can see the current range of boats in test Center see

Cost:

  • Price includes guiding, canoe training, organization of the tour
  • Kayaks and paddles can be borrowed from us for a fee
  • Further costs arise for: travel, logistics on site, accommodation, meals
  • The costs for logistics are passed on to the participants. Air and train travelers should expect to pay around €35 per day

Accommodation:

Depending on the weather and the group's wishes, we spend the night in friendly hotels, campsites and wild places right on the river.

Participants usually finance their meals through a group fund. The cost here is around 10 euros per day. A dinner in the restaurant costs around 20 euros.

The participants bear the accommodation costs incurred. Toros Outdoors only establishes contact with local riders and guesthouses and the camp participants bill these services directly to the local entrepreneurs.

Arrival:

We recommend traveling by train. You travel comfortably to Rome by night train and then take the short connecting train to Salerno. If you prefer to travel during the day, it's best to drive to Bologna or Milan and change there to the super-fast Frecciarossa, which will also take you to Salerno. We will pick you up there on the evening of March 16th.

We recommend the previous one for self-drivers Trebbia Camp to take part, as the direct journey to the south is quite far. If you want to dare, meet us on the morning of March 17th near the town of Postiglione. Sunday, March 17.3th is the first day of paddling. We recommend that air travelers travel to Naples Airport. The last day of paddling is March 24.3th. Return flight or return journey by train on March 25.3th.

We would much rather recommend that you continue your journey to Greece with us. You can reach Hellas via the ferry ports of Brindisi and Igoumenitsa on March 27.3th at the latest. Another two hours by car takes us to Grevena, where on March 29.3th. the first day of paddling Greece Bulgaria Road Trips starts.

Important:

Weather and water conditions may require short-term changes to route and river selection. The water levels depend on the snow conditions and can be influenced by rainfall. This means that individual stages may not be possible due to too little or too much water. In any case, top-class alternatives are provided.
